In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms and

conventions of real media products?

Ident:

Incase you are unable to hear the VoiceThread presentation here is roughly what I said on each slide:

Slide one:

Hello I'm Emily Ventress and I will be talking through in what ways does our media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Slide two:

The length of our opening title sequence, which is 2 minutes and 19 seconds, is quite typical of any film’s opening titles, this includes the main credits, so the main character’s actors and the director, producer and stuff like that. The form and structure are also conventional of an opening title sequence as it has a slow start and then gets quicker as the main credits come on the screen. It’s a bit untypical than the ident is a sandwiched in between footage of our film, and looking back it probably would’ve been better if we had put it at the start because otherwise it feels more like a trailer than an opening title sequence. The sound icon on the screen was a Gif of our ident but I’ll attach that below this voice thread in my wix page.

Slide three:

The title of our media product is ‘Blank’ this is partly typical of the Film Noir style as film noir films are normally not only one word but they do normally have a negative or bleak theme. It is also black and white which is conventional and the white stands out clearly on the black well. With our ident which is for CEMS Productions, the ident is a short animation of particle-like lights flying down. However it isn’t conventional of normal studio dents as they’re normally based around clouds or skies. The purpley blue colours work well and I am proud with how this looks.

Slide four:

Our narrative is quite conventional of the film noir genre as the everyman is in trouble, there’s a manipulative femme fatale, the everyman feels the need to rely on a substance to get through, however the psychic theme of him being able to see into his future in his dreams is very un conventional and a little into the sci-fi genre. Also the everyman ends up murdering even though he doesn’t really want to and also narrates the story through his own thoughts which is typical.

Slide five:

The everyman starts the opening title sequence of our media product by speaking for the first 24 seconds beginning at the end of the story which is very typical of Film Noir. But the music isn’t film noir and is more horror, thriller which is what me and Chloe wanted for our Neo-Noir cross. We layered the music which we got copyright free, typical of film noir is more jazz-style but we went for up beat, heart racing music which works well and gives it a disquiet feel. We did foley the light switch noise, the door shutting and when the Everyman clicks his fingers. It is typical for a film to foley and dub certain sounds.

Slide six:

So lastly thank you for listening to this voice thread.
