Who would be the audience for your media product?

Incase you are unable to view the Prezi presentation here is what each slide says:

Slide one:

film ratings

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) classifys videos, DVDs and some video games.

It is important to rate films so that children don't  get shown accidentally, or deliberately, something which isn't appropriate for them. It is important as well for these age ratings so the audience know which film is aimed at who. Most adverts are rated as a U (Universal)  or a PG (Parental Guidance) as they can be shown to a wide audience and if it was an 18 it would be challenging to only show posters or adverts to over 18s.

Slide on 12 rating:

We were initially going to set our media product as a film rating of a Twelve.

but decided to go with a 15 instead to do more horror than thiller genre and felt the storyline isn't very child appropriate.

Slide on 15 rating:

In a 15 you may see:

strong violence, frequent strong language, portrayals of sexual activity, strong verbal references to sex, sexual nudity, brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal, references to sexual violence, discriminatory language or behaviour or drug taking

Slide four:

Male or Female?

Male. More males watch horrors than females. Also as our Everyman is a male the audience may feel they can relate to him more, especially as the femme fatale doesn't show women in the best light so they feel offended by this.

Slide five:

Our film is targeted to males aged 18-25 This is because it's in trend for competitive boys to go to the cinema with their friends, to see a horror and see how long they can last without showing signs of being scared as other boy they've gone with may see this as a weakness. Also it isn't common for a male of this age to go see a Film Noir genre film so this would show them something new and exciting - a key point of why Cinema City choose their films, so the audience can see something new.

Slide six:

Film Lovers

Many film fanatics are willing to see almost anything at the cinema so they can compare and review these films. This means they will be willing to try out new genres and perhaps combined with a genre they already like. However these 'film lovers' will probably have written multiple reviews are know what to/not to write about, this means me and Chloe should have impressed them first-time with our media product otherwise they may write a negative assessment.

Slide seven:

What might be in our media product if it was full length that may make it a 15 rated film?

Considering the narrative and cross horror genre it is likely there will be scenes of strong violence, threat, strong language and maybe drug takg depending on how we want to show the audience the Everyman's state of despare, these all mean it would not be advised to show to a 14 year old or below.

Slide eight:

Why this age & this sex?

These two graphs above show how the most age popular category for horror films are ages 19-24, then 25-34 shortly followed by 15-18 years old. Also it's shown more males go see horrors than females. Combining these two should be the recipe for success as long as our film does appeal to both of these which me and Chloe agree it does.

2 pie charts show statistics of horror film audiences

Slide nine:

Who does Film Noir normally appeal to?

Hollywood's classical Film Noir period is generally regarded as extending from the early 1940s to the late 1950s. At this point they would've been some of the most popular films for youths to see. These youths will now be roughly 60-70 years old. These people may wish to reminisce but youths of this period may also wish to see Film Noirs as a refreshing side of film they're not used to.

Slide ten:

How do audiences consume?

Me and Chloe are aiming our media product film at  cinema goers who are willing to try a new style and genre such as Film Noir as it's popularity has faded since the 1940s. We would also hope to put it on some streaming services such as Netflix and Sky Movies as this would increase the how easy it would be for people to watch it. On Netflix there's also many genres of movies such as dark films, children's films, romantic comedies and horrors etc. which would be it would be easier to target our audience to watch it by putting it under a sub genre like horror or dark films.
