Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

My preliminary task ends at 3:20. Thereon onwards is a black screen - this is an error and is not part of my prelimary task.

To the left is mine, Chloe Smith's and another AS Media Studies member, Freya Rudd's preliminary, continuety task. We based it on the fairytale, Cinderella but made it into the Film Noir genre.

Below is our product when set the task to make a trailer for a film in a Sweded style. Sweded means the summarised reacreation of popular pop-culture films using limited budgets and a camcorder.

Incase you are unable to view the Powerpoint presentation here is what it said on each slide:

Slide one:

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Slide two:

What did I need to improve in my preliminary task?

audio levels (sound and speech):

  • Our background music was too dominant

  • We didn't foley

  • Our speech was too quiet in places

shadows:

  • We didn't have many shadows in our preliminary task

  • The shadows we did have were hard to establish what they were

  • It is conventional of the Film Noir genre to have lots of shadows

clumsy background clutter:

  • Things were in shot that shouldn't have been

  • Tri-pods, lights etc.

  • We need to check what's in the frame

Slide three:

Did I improve these elements in my final media product?

audio levels (sound and speech):

  • Foley-ed doors, switches and finger clicks

  • Mixed background musics so nothing was domineering

  • Edited speech to make it able to hear

shadows:

  • Shadows are either easy to know what they are or distorted to give thriller feel

  • Enought shadows for Neo-Noir

  • Neo-Noir is Film Noir normally with an element of another genre

clumsy background clutter:

  • Nothing was in shot that shouldn't have been

  • We checked what was in the frame

  • All looked good
